The Health Act 2006 and the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections enshrine the commitment of the National Health Service to improve our Healthcare Associated Infection performance. It is now widely recognised that many such infections are preventable and that evidence-based interventions are beneficial.
The 2007 Masterclass on Healthcare Associated Infections showcased the recent advances and developments in infection control in the UK and helped Trusts to share techniques and achievements in this area. The 2008 series of Masterclasses will expand from MRSA and C.diff hospital acquired infections into ESBL strains, and explore how we should tackle this threat. This will be a forum for those who have implemented successful strategies and programmes to share their knowledge and experience with others. The programme design gives plenty of opportunities to understand the expectations of the Health Care Commission (HCC) and learn from the experiences of a visit from the Improvement Team.
Everyone in the Health Service (including the patient) has a role in reducing Healthcare Associated Infections and in meeting the requirements of the Health Act. The Masterclass gives an opportunity to find out what works and avoid reinventing the wheel.
The format of the Masterclass will allow for pre-class preparation with
a selection of significant
scientific and management papers nominated by Faculty Members. For the
two days at each Masterclass, the
Faculty of professionals involved in preventing and managing Healthcare
Associated Infections will be brought together and share
experiences and knowledge, leading to information-exchange and an improved
understanding of
what is needed to be achieved and maintained to reach the aims of the
Act.
Encouraged to battle on!
